Resilience and Identity in the Urban Fabric

Critical Observation

True urban resilience is achieved by enhancing existing community structures and cultural identities rather than imposing top-down technological interventions that risk erasure.

Proudly associated!! " "Growing up with the name Kibera meant often being linked to Nairobi’s informal settlement; sometimes misunderstood, sometimes stigmatised. Visiting the settlement myself taught me to look deeper; to see resilience, resourcefulness, and how communities adapt with what little they have. "

"As an urban designer, I carry those lessons into my work. Diverse contexts may look worlds apart, but they raise the same fundamental questions: "

"How do we create spaces that strengthen communities rather than displace them? " "How do we improve living conditions without erasing identity? " "How do we adapt to climate pressures while respecting existing ways of living? "

"Visions like turning corrugated rooftops into green roofs in Kibera remind me that climate resilience is not only about technology or design; it is about strengthening what already exists, while opening space for a more sustainable and adaptive future.
